Vaccines may need to be updated for better protection against COVID-19 variants including Omicron, WHO says

The World Health Organization’s Technical Advisory Group of COVID-19 Vaccine Composition said on Tuesday that current COVID-19 vaccines may need to be updated to ensure “WHO-recommended levels of protection” against new variants of concern like Omicron. It also said that current COVID-19 vaccines continue to provide protection against severe disease and death caused by all variants and urged broader global access to these vaccines to help mitigate the emergence and impact of new variants of concern.
